Ministerial Meeting, November 2020
On 18 November 2020, the Global HIV Prevention Coalition (GPC) convened a Ministerial Meeting on ‘HIV Prevention 2021-2025, taking stock, planning the future’ with the aim to reviewing progress in implementing the HIV Prevention 2020 Road Map and paving the way forward to expand and amplify HIV prevention efforts during the period 2021-2025 as part of a next phase of the GPC.
Around 300 participants, including the Vice-President of Zimbabwe, 12 Ministers of Health from GPC countries and the heads of UNAIDS, UNFPA and the Global Fund attended the virtual event. They updated on GPC progress and highlighted the need for generating a renewed vision for HIV prevention beyond 2020, taking into account new environments and working towards ensuring increased investments in prevention, improving national stewardship and community engagement, and addressing the structural barriers hindering progress. A central role of HIV prevention in the new UNAIDS strategy was equally emphasized.
UNAIDS launched a fourth progress report on the implementation of the HIV Prevention 2020 Road Map – the guiding framework of the GPC.
