The satellite session of the International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA 2019) described in this flyer was organized by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), the World Health Organization (WHO), the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and Jhpiego as a forum for discussing how to increase the impact and sustainability of voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) for HIV prevention. Speakers told the story of VMMC as an effective HIV prevention intervention, presented key recommendations and evidence from updated WHO guidance, and highlighted new programmatic considerations to further reduce the risk of HIV infection among adolescent boys and men in high HIV burden countries in eastern and southern Africa.
