The World Health Organization and UNAIDS have developed a framework with new strategic directions for voluntary medical male circumcision from 2016 to 2021 (VMMC2021). Building on the successes achieved under the previous framework (2012-16), the new framework promotes VMMC as part of an essential package of health services for men and boys, using approaches that are tailored for various age groups and locations. The two main targets of VMMC2021, aligned with the UNAIDS’ fast track goals, are that by 2021, 90 percent of males ages 10 to 20 will have been circumcised in priority settings in sub-Saharan Africa and 90 percent of 10- to 29-year-old males will have accessed health services tailored to their needs.
