These guidelines are intended to assist physicians prescribing antiretroviral therapy (ART), as well as the teams in the ART centres, with practical issues regarding the treatment of HIV/AIDS in India. The guidelines are intended to bridge the gap in treatment recommendations between public and private sector programmes and reflect best practices while recognising that certain recommendations are often inspirational in poorly resourced areas.
