Dr. Emmanuel Njeuhmeli, who has served as senior biomedical prevention advisor at the Office of HIV/AIDS at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), reflects on lessons learned from the first nine years of scaling up VMMC for HIV prevention. He writes that the experience of moving this intervention from evidence to policy to implementation and scale-up has yielded lessons that will guide future VMMC efforts and could also be applied to other public health interventions.
