This document presents the strategy of India's national government in confronting the HIV/AIDS crisis along with other sexually transmitted infections. Now in its fifth phase, the strategy seeks to achieve an 80 percent reduction in new infections and AIDS-related deaths. This phase places greater emphasis on the dual elimination of HIV and syphilis and the interruption of vertical transmission from mother to child. The programme shifts emphasis to the provision of integrated beneficiary-centric services which are to be customised to target populations and priority geographic locations.
