Researchers conducted a pair-matched community-randomised trial in Botswana in 15 villages where standard HIV prevention and treatment services were offered and 15 intervention villages where participants received HIV testing and counselling, linkage to care, antiretroviral therapy (started at a higher CD4 count than in standard care), and increased access to voluntary medical male circumcision services. The results are presented in an article in The New England Journal of Medicine.
