Julia Samuelson of the World Health Organization’s Office of HIV/AIDS presents WHO’s recommendations for preventing tetanus infection, a rare but serious complication of voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC). Speaking at the Meeting on Implementing the 2017-2021 Framework for Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision for the Eastern and Southern Africa Region in Durban, South Africa, on 27 February 2017, she also reported on the WHO prequalification status of several devices for performing male circumcision for HIV prevention and the WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization's recommendations on increasing access to vaccinations against tetanus, particularly for male adolescents.
