A study conducted in three districts of Tanzania explored the challenges and opportunities for involving traditional practitioners in scaling up safe male circumcision for HIV prevention. This report presents the findings about the practice of traditional circumcision and factors that might facilitate or hinder partnerships between traditional providers and the formal health system, as well as recommendations for involving traditional circumcisers while preserving the social context of traditional male circumcision.
