Of the 12 tetanus cases reported by voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) programmes in in eastern Africa from 2013 to mid-2016, two occurred in Kenya. Reports of tetanus cases in VMMC settings in the region revealed low immunity to tetanus among adolescent boys and men. This document provides guidelines for mitigating the risk of tetanus in Kenya's VMMC programmes, including the provision of booster tetanus immunisations to clients.
