HIV Prevention Coalition sessions at AIDS 2024!

Sessions in the UNAIDS Room in Munich, will be accessible to everyone globally.

The Global HIV Prevention Coalition (GPC) is on its way to the 25th International AIDS Conference in Munich, Germany, from 22-26 July 2024. Several distinct sessions have been organized by and for the prevention community and beyond. Here are some to look out for:


People-centred and sustainable HIV prevention: Towards a new generation of prevention responses in a changing epidemic context

The HIV epidemic has evolved. Discussions held in the session will focus on the next generation of HIV prevention build on precise analysis of the epidemic, differentiated people centered packages of services delivered at scale that reach the most affected communities with intensified prevention to ensure sustainability. Hosted by BMGF and the GPC, this session will outline a new generation of systematic differentiated prevention. The session will take place on Wednesday, 24 July, 12:00 – 1:00 pm; Room 14b/Channel 3.


Achieving scale and equity: models to simplify, normalize, and diversify PrEP service delivery

This session will spotlight diverse real-world PrEP service delivery models from a variety of contexts and for different populations that showcase examples of the innovative, out-of-the-box thinking needed to accelerate PrEP scale-up –followed by a panel discussion with leading experts on accelerating PrEP scaleup, sustainability of PrEP programming and the implications of new PrEP products and approaches. The session is hosted by WHO, US-CDC, International AIDS Society, PATH, EpiC Project, UNAIDS: taking place on Monday, 22 July, 7:30 – 9:00 am, Room 14c/Channel 10.


GPC Press Conference: HIV prevention epidemic trends and implications for the GPC

With less than 18 months to reach the 2025 global targets, the urgency to accelerate HIV prevention has never been greater than today. We are organizing a press conference, for stakeholders following the launch of the 2024 Global AIDS Update, for a deep-dive discussion regarding the epidemic trends as relates to HIV Prevention by programmatic area, geographical locations, and implications for the coalition. The speakers will include the GPC co-chairs and UNAIDS leadership. This session, hosted by the GPC and AVAC is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 24 July, 13:30 – 14:15 in the UNAIDS meeting room 11. Join the Zoom Meeting.


Cutting-edge prevention expertise for country and local program managers: How to access new and impactful HIV prevention resources

This session aims to launch the Prevention learning pack –a resource guide for key HIV stakeholders, introduce the recently launched Global HIV Prevention Coalition (GPC) resource hub and share key resources for South-to-South learning. This session, hosted by the GPC in collaboration with the South-to-South Learning Network, is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 24 July, 16:45 – 17:45 in the UNAIDS meeting room 12. Men and HIV: Innovative strategies and challenges in addressing HIV among men: Insights and future directions

Men are less likely to start and stay on treatment – they have higher prevention and treatment disruptions. This session aims to explore innovative strategies, tailored interventions for men to reduce HIV transmission and improve health outcomes; address specific barriers faced by men in accessing HIV prevention, testing and treatment services as well as identify gaps in current strategies and formulation of actionable recommendations for future research and policy development. This hybrid session hosted by UNAIDS and WHO, is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 25 July, 9:00 – 11:00 am in UNAIDS meeting room 12. Join the Zoom Meeting


Key Populations Community of Practice (KP COP) Theme 10: How to use law reform to advance HIV prevention for key populations

This key population community of practice meeting "How to use law reform to advance HIV prevention for key populations” is scheduled to take place, 25 July 2024, 12:00 – 13:30 pm, hosted by UNDP, SSLN and GPC in the UNAIDS meeting room 12. The meeting will focus on punitive and discriminatory laws and policies related to sex work, same-sex sexual behavior, transgender people, and people who use drugs. The meeting will also discuss how enabling laws can enhance access to HIV prevention. Register here


Global Condom Community of Practice session: The relevance of condoms in an era of choice

This session will provide a comprehensive analysis of the status and chart a way forward in the spheres of commodity security, people-centered design, demand generation and effective stewardship. Thereby the session will also discuss what sustainable condom programming could look like in different epidemic and socio-economic contexts. This session hosted by the Global HIV Prevention Coalition is also scheduled to take place on Monday 22 July 2024, 9:30-11:00 am in the UNAIDS meeting room 12. Join the Zoom Meeting

About the GPC

In 2017, a global coalition of United Nations Member States, donors, civil society organizations, and implementers was established to support global efforts to accelerate HIV prevention.  Membership includes 38 of the highest HIV-burden countries, UNAIDS Cosponsors, donors, civil society, and private sector organizations. The overarching goal of the Global HIV Prevention Coalition is to strengthen and sustain a political commitment to primary prevention by setting a common agenda among key policy-makers, funders, and programme implementers.
